It’s the end of the world!

OK, not really, but at least my world is going to feel like that. Why? Well I’ll tell you, because I know you’re wondering why! I have decided 2016 is the year of living frugally, for me anyways. Now before you start rolling your eyes and think “ugh, another resolution post”, nope this is not one of those. I have just come to the Carrie Bradshaw realization that everyone, including my son, are saving their pennies and have bank accounts to show for it and all I have is a closet office full of shoes and bags. Gorgeous, to-die-for shoes and bags, but that’s it. So, I’ve decided 2016 is the year I start to invest in my bank account. Lord have mercy, I don’t know if I can do it, but like Yoda says “Do or do not, there is no try.” And who am I to argue with a Jedi Master? So here goes everything…into my bank account!

Mally Beauty Gel Nails

I recently purchased Mally’s gel nail system on QVC when she was on all day a few weeks ago, I don’t know how you do it girl! The whole kit is about a $300 value priced at $69 and it’s on Easy Pay. I love Easy Pay!! So if you can contain yourself until after you finish reading this review hop on over to QVC and order yourself one. I mean, hello, you order it and get it home for about $30, which is less than the cost of the bag if you were to purchase it at, try it out and if you don’t like it send it back, boom you’re only out about $6, say wah??? You won’t send it back though, trust me on this one.😉 Before I ordered I also went over to YouTube to find out how easy it actually was to apply. Yes, I know Mally shows us all on QVC how easy it is to polish your nails and swipe, swipe, 30 seconds under the LED light and done, but what is she going to say? “Oh, it’s going to take you all day and it’s very difficult to polish your nails with my product.” Uh, no of course not! So I found AllThatsRed video on YouTube, she does a great demo showing us how she applies the polish and tips on where you should set-up before you begin.

Everything that Mally puts in her kit fits in the bag that she includes. I love that! If you’re like me, you have nail polish bottles everywhere, because you’ve tried all of them hoping that you’ve finally found “the one”. With this kit you can keep everything together and you won’t be searching for your lamp and then your nail polish remover bowl once you’re ready to remove your polish and trying to remember where you put your nail polish remover. This bag keeps everything together and it’s not a flimsy bag either so it’s not going to fall apart on you. Mally also includes step-by-step instructions on how to apply everything. Yes, it’s going to take you longer than a minute to polish your nails, this is not a quickie application, but if you go to the manicurist does it only take a few minutes for them to apply your polish and out the door you go? No, of course not. You need to prep your nails and prime them before you apply your polish, if you wear makeup it’s similar steps. You put on your moisturizer (hopefully with SPF!), apply your primer and then your foundation same thing with this system, BUT after you’re finished guess what? You can go to bed, you can take a shower, you can give your love a hug and your polish is not going to smudge! Woo-hoo!! And once you get the steps down you’ll notice it doesn’t take as long as it did when you first started using Mally’s gel nail system.

I love this system and in my neck of the woods this will pay for itself in two applications. I don’t have to worry about walking into the nail salon and wonder if I’m going to get in right away or if I’m going to have to wait, and now that we’ve hit the spring/summer months, that’s a possibility. The only thing I have to worry about is will my hubby and son leave me alone long enough to get it done. Lol Another great thing about this kit is that the lamp is LED not UV, plus it has different timers to chose from if you feel that you need more than the recommended time that’s in the instructions. Again, yes using gel nail polish is a longer process than the usual regular nail polish, but if you’ve ever gone to the nail salon and had a gel/shellac manicure you know there are more steps than regular nail polish. Unlike regular polish, though, this will last you longer than a few days, it only takes about a minute to dry and you’re done.

Second day wearing Aristocrat

Once it comes time to removing your gel polish Mally provides a bowl for you to soak your hands in so that the polish can be easily removed from your nails. My main tip for this step is make sure that your soak off nail polish remover is room temperature, I made the mistake of removing my polish in front of the vent in our bedroom and OMG I felt like I had just put my hand in the Arctic ocean! The recommended soak time is 15 minutes and it was a bit of a torture with my first hand because the nail polish remover was so cold. So if you don’t like the cold, like me, make sure your nail polish remover is at room temperature. After I remove my gel nail polish, even before buying this kit, I always give my nails some recovery time before I apply a new color. With this kit I’m giving it about a week and I now have a new color on. I started with the Aristocrat and currently have Big Apple on and both colors are beautiful. QVC has a variety of nail polish colors that can be purchased separately with a $3 shipping charge and Mally also has colors on her website with free shipping at $50. My advice would be, if you see something you like on Mally’s website, but your shopping cart doesn’t total $50 or over look for it on QVC’s website since the shipping charge will be much less.

Here’s a few pics I took showing you the Aristocrat color and how the polish held up over 2 weeks.

This is right at 14 days. I did start picking at some of the polish as you can tell. Opsie!

Inspiration for the Week

Weekend Inspiration September 1

  1. I love this nail polish! I tried the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel first since they did have this one line of polish I really liked, but sadly they only put out about six colors and then discontinued it. Shame on you Sally Hansen because that was one of the best lines you had. I’ll have a separate post, with pics, on my opinion on Revlon vs. Sally gel nail polishes. I wonder which will be my fave? Mmmmmm, I wonder….
  2. Ah, Estee Lauder, how I love thee and your many beauty addictions products. This Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Envious will be my next purchase and an FYI, Macy’s has an 8 piece GWP right now so check it out before it’s gone!
  3. Another “I wish it were Fall” moment. The moto jacket, and how great would it look in this emerald green for that pop of color? #Want
  4. Read! Even if it’s a gossip mag although I prefer Glamour😉 take a moment out of your day just for you and read. We have an enforced lunch at work so I head to the library and read for about an hour. I’m not a lunch eater, don’t judge. I just finished Manor of Secrets and it was great! If you watch Downton Abbey you’ll love this book, one of my fave of the summer. Now I’m starting Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. I really hope it lives up to the first two. Let me know what you’re taking a moment out of your day to read, besides my post.🙂

Have a great September everyone! Fashion Week(s) are almost here!!

Inspiration for the Week

Inspiration for the Week of August 18th

Inspiration for the Week of August 18th

1. I love butterflies! And this ring from Van Cleef & Arpels is to die. Of course I’d probably have to wait for someone to die in order to get one so I’ll just wear the ones I inherited from my husband’s grandmother. I didn’t get the chance to spend much time with her before she passed, but I know we would’ve definitely been shopping BFF’s.

2. This outfit Katie Holmes is sporting is giving me Fall, when it hits 100 degrees (and I know it will) I’ll be staring at this pic willing the cooler weather to finally arrive. Even though we’re still having hot weather I’m going to attempt this outfit this week. Hot weather be damned!

3. Don’t forget to moisturize before bed! I love Estee Lauder and right now Dillard’s and Lord & Taylor each have separate “gift with purchase” promotions going on. Who doesn’t love a GWP?!? If you haven’t tried Advanced Night Repair now is great time to give it a try, your face will thank you. Trust!

4. I have so many maxi skirts! Why did I not think of trying this trick before? I need to try this out this coming weekend. Thanks Glamour for the inspiration.

5. When I’m having a bad hair day, especially once the weekend gets here my go-to is “throw a ball cap on”. I’m trying to get away from that and I’ve started wearing my DKNY felt floppy hat, which surprisingly is quite cool even in the height of summer. I’d like to attempt this look with a scarf, I just need to find the right scarf.

There you have it, my inspirations for the week. What are you looking to for inspiration this week?

Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Blush with Brush

I’d originally planned to write about Josie’s Argan Lip Treatments I received in the 5 piece collection I ordered from QVC, but since there’s a possibility of a Today’s Special Value coming up at the end of the week. I thought I’d write about another purchase I made on QVC since it’s an exclusive to them. It’s Josie’s Argan Matchmaker Blush with Brush. It comes in three shades, Fair/Light, Light/Medium, and Medium/Dark and you’re supposed to choose according to your skin coloring or the shade you’ve chosen for the Matchmaker foundation if you use that, but in my opinion that’s not the way to go. I read some reviews that said the Light/Medium had an orange hue to it once applied and this is the color I would’ve have gone with if not for reading the other reviews and watching the video on QVC. If you watch the video there are pics of which shade you should fall into, but there’s also models that are there to apply the blush and show you how it works. Between the reviews and seeing the different shades on the models (the model that was using the Medium/Dark I could identify with, she’s the first to appear in the video) I decided to go with the Medium/Dark even though at the moment I still have my winter coloring :cough: self tan :cough: since it appeared to have a more reddish berry color to it and that’s the shade I was going for. And voilà when I first applied it that’s exactly what I got!

Now for the application part, when applying it I do one swipe across the compact with the brush and then tap the brush on the side of the compact and that is enough for me. Now if you want to go a bit darker you’ll definitely need more swipes, but I found when I did two swipes my cheeks looked like a little girl who got into her mama’s makeup. Of course the darker your skin then yes, you will need more than one swipe in order for it to be visible. Also depending on what color you’re looking for you may actually prefer the Light/Medium and its orange undertones. I haven’t heard much when it comes to the Fair/Light, but from watching the video it seems to have a peachy color to it. If you want some color on your cheeks but don’t want it to be as noticeable then I’d say go with the Fair/Light. I prefer to have a “natural” makeup look which is why I use the Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid foundation, but I do prefer to have color on my cheeks which is another reason why I went with the Medium/Dark shade.

One trick I learned from the host on QVC was, if you’re running short on time and all you have time for is mascara, lipstick and blush then use this blush on your eyes. Boom! You now have eyeshadow. I used this trick the other day on my lids and it gave me just the slightest hint of color but that was enough for me and at the end of the day I didn’t have that eyeshadow crease you can get. I also love that Josie gives you a brush to use with the blush and it isn’t one of those chintzy throw away brushes either it’s an excellent quality brush.

Overall I would recommend giving this blush a try and since it’s an exclusive to QVC you have 30 days to try it out and if you don’t think it’s for you then you have the option to return it. Just remember to return it before the 30 days are up! If you’re already using Josie’s Argan Oil this blush is a wonderful complement to the Argan Oil. Do you already have Josie’s blush? What do you think?

Thanks for stoping by!❤

Josie Maran Argan Oil

So I finally took the plunge! I had been on the fence about ordering argan oil period, for obvious reasons (OIL!) but thankfully there were some reviews on QVC and Sephora to go by plus Josie Maran is just so darn convincing all on her own! I had read that the Argan Oil Light was the one to order if you have an oily visage or if you have a T-Zone like I do. And that is what I’m recommending now, as well. When Josie says “light” she means it. I use 4 drops in the morning after I’ve applied my Estee Lauder moisturizer since it has SPF which I will not leave the house without it on my face! Four drops is enough to cover my whole face and I don’t look like an oil slick and my makeup (Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup) stays put. The Argan Oil doesn’t have any SPF in it; as well it shouldn’t, since its pure Argan Oil and adding anything to it would no longer make it “pure”, duh! At night I use 4 drops as well and I pat it on just the way Josie shows you to when she’s on QVC and I pat lightly when I’m going around my eye area. Yes, you can use this around your eye area and it isn’t going to irritate them at all, well at least on me it didn’t and I also where contacts. Thanks to the polar vortex there have been days when I’ve added a 5th drop of oil around my lip area, I also started getting a chapped/eczema type of thing going around my neck and I used the oil in combination with St. Ives lotion and it cleared it right up. I’ve been using the Argan Oil Light for a little over two weeks now and I love it! My face doesn’t look as red as before, it’s so much softer and for some reason, and this may not be the case for everyone, but my eyebrows are fuller. I haven’t been using it for the full four weeks, which seems to be the magic number to really see a change in your skin i.e. the fine lines I know are there, but everyone says aren’t; so I will update once I’ve hit that mark especially now that I’ve added the regular Argan Oil to my beauty regimen (did I really just say that?). I love this oil so much that I ordered the regular Argan Oil to use at night. I’ve only been using the regular Argan oil for a few days now, but I can feel the difference between the regular and the light. I usually splash water on my face in the morning and since using the regular Argan oil my face feels softer and smoother.

If you’re considering give Josie’s Argan Oil a try here’s my recommendations. If you just want to try the oil either the regular or the light go to Josie’s website and order there. You can order the regular here and the light here. Some of the reasons why is Josie doesn’t use a huge box to send you your product, it’s packaged well and everything is recyclable. She also offers free shipping on orders over $25 and who doesn’t love free shipping?!? And you may find a surprise or two with your shipment as well.😉 And there are also some products like her new moisturizer that are exclusive to her site, I really want to try this product out, but since I just bought a new Estee Lauder moisturizer it might be awhile. Then there are products exclusive to QVC, a very dangerous place for me, like this Argan Matchmaker Blush and Argan Oil Collection that I did order the other day when QVC was having an Easy Pay day. I’ve already received the Argan Oil Collection so I’ll be adding more reviews as I use those products.

If you’re still wobbling about whether to give Josie’s Argan Oil a try, I say go for it! If the $48, 1.7 oz. is too much for you there’s a smaller size here for $16 and it also comes in light. AND if that doesn’t entice you enough then just wait until the 28th of March she has a full hour on QVC from 12-1 am and if you’re like me then you know that could possibly mean a Today’s Special Value! If you decide to go for it let me know what you think and if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll try to answer them as soon as I can.

I tried it: Peanut butter football dip

Who doesn’t love football? Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter together? Well someone, put that all together and thanks to Pinterest I found this yumminess for myself. This is my third attempt at making something I found on Pinterest. The first was red velvet cake in jar and well that was a disaster, next came this cheddar bacon dip that everyone raves about in their reviews (nothing special imo). Well this week one of our co-workers celebrated her 30th anniversary with the company and since she loves this football team from Dallas (see how I did that?)😉 we had a tailgate themed celebration. So I knew exactly which board from my Pinterest I would look to for an idea.

It was a fairly easy recipe, I of course skipped ahead and just dumped all the powdered sugar in there at once, but really if you do the same thing it’s not going to hurt anything. I did have to put the mixture in the fridge for an hour aka Scandal was on and I wasn’t going to miss it. So after I finished seeing Olivia as a somewhat naive college co-ed, getting mad at Quinn for not listening to Huck and feeling sad for Huck; I took out the mixture from the fridge and put it in my football mold. If you have a football cake pan or container of some sort I’d definitely recommend using it, I’m not sure if I could’ve formed the football shape without it. I added the sprinkles and then pushed back the mixture from the sides with a spoon and moved the sprinkles around so they would cover the entire football mixture including the sides. I really wasn’t sure how it would go over, but everyone asked for the recipe and I only had a little bit left to bring home. Which made my hubby happy since he could have some too. The one thing I did notice is that over the course of the day the dip became a bit “liquidy” not sure if that’s due to the peanut butter or maybe I didn’t have enough confectioner’s sugar in there to soak up the oil from the peanut butter.

Overall it was a great hit. If you’d like to try it yourself you can check it out here and let me know how it turns out for you. Thanks for stopping by!
